Vintage: 2003
Type: Riesling
Country: Germany – Pfalz

Rieslings should be able to lie down and age well but this 2003 seems to have prematurely peaked (perhaps due to my storage conditions). Don’t you hate it when London flats get too warm and your sensitive wines react poorly?
Like most older Rieslings, this one has taken on a slight petrol smell. It is off-dry (slightly sweet) and unfortunately does not offer a complex nose. Drink this now if you have any and do not want it to go to waste.

Vintage: 2009
Type: Riesling
Country: Australia – Clare Valley

If you thought that bright, juicy Rieslings could only originate from Germany or the Alsace region, think again. This Australian beauty just bursts with fruity fragrances and flavours that make my mouth water.
The bottle is tall and slim like most Germanic whites but the label is thoroughly untraditional: it has a scene of Godzilla attacking a city and all the skyscrapers falling down. Could this be a metaphor for the Riesling knocking my taste buds out?
This went down well with a salmon fillet and oriental stir fry.

Vintage: 2002
Type: Riesling
Country: France – Alsace

I love Rieslings for many reasons and this bottle delivers. The colour has a touch of golden honey but the nose is fresh and citrus-infused. The taste is clean and acidic. This is a good wine to accompany an oriental pork or chicken-based stir-fry or to drink on its own (with a bowl of spiced cashews or peanuts). It is mouth-watering delicious!

Type: Riesling
Country: Germany – Pfalz

This is a good Riesling, not extraordinary. I picked this bottle up from Waitrose to take back to the office for an after-work do but never got around to drinking it until a few months later at home. This is a simple wine that is fine to accompany a more flavourful, spicy dish so that it can help neutralise the palate. The bottle is good value.

Vintage: 2006
Type: Riesling
Country: Australia – Victoria

This was a wine that I thought was produced in Germany but only at the end of the evening did I realise it was produced in Australia.
It was a bright and zesty Riesling that complemented our Oriental dinner: chilli and soy-glazed salmon fillets on Pancit (Filipino noodles).
The wine tastes sweeter than most Rieslings that I have tasted and will prompt your mouth to water. It was a good bottle of wine.

Vintage: 2008
Type: Riesling
Country: Canada – Okanagan Valley, BC

One of the few bottles we carried back from our wedding, we savoured this gorgeous Riesling a couple of weeks ago on a hot evening.
This is a zesty wine that is fresh and aromatic. It has flavours of pineapple and green apple. Just lovely. This would go very well with a sweet and spicy dish, for example, Thai chilli chicken cashew stir fry with egg noodles.

Vintage: 2007
Type: Riesling
Country: Germany

This was a wine that my husband (then boyfriend!) picked up at the Spirit of Christmas fair from the Gerhardt Wines stand. Although not a white wine drinker, I was able to convince my husband to buy two bottles of this delicious, mouth-watering Riesling. I recall it tasting slightly fruity and appearing almost colourless, but it I imagined it would taste perfect with Thai stir fries or green curries. I was correct! We still have the other bottle left, which will be opended on a warm spring evening, 2010.
