This is a good non dosage champagne. Very dry, high acidity flavours of apple and toasty biscuit. A perfect to start an evening.

Vintage: Non Vintage
Type: Rose Port
Country: Portugal- Douro- Porto
This is a straight forward pink port that I picked up in the Waitrose Wine Hall. Served chilled between 10-12 degrees Celcius and it releases its fruity aromas. Try drinking this in the early afternoon when it is hot outside, maybe while snacking on honey roasted peanuts. This could easily replace a Pimm’s when you are enjoying the sunshine in your back garden … because everyone has a sunny back garden in Central London, right?

Type: Tawny Port
Country: Portugal – Douro
This tawny port is quite nice, despite being a younger port. The fruit flavours a well developed, though I find that younger tawny’s taste less refined and elegant. It is a good drinking tawny, and certainly good value for money. Personally, when I have the chance to drink port I prefer a tawny with more panache.

This is a great Tawny port. Full of sweet nuts and dried fruits and a great viscosity that creates legs that seem to never end. I find that this tawny is a bit softer and subtle compared to the Taylor’s 20, but it is still exceptional. The only thing that makes me sad about this port is that it is hard to find in the UK!

Vintage: Non-Vintage
Type: Sake
Country: Japan – Niigata
This was a rice wine that we picked up from the Selfridges Wine & Spirit Hall. The major draw to this sake is that it is laced with tiny flecks of (real) silver stars, which are safe to ingest. To prevent any heating complications, we drank this sake cold as an accompaniment to sushi. The bottle is small, so the sake can be finished by a couple in one evening. It is also on the pricey side.

A new bottle label, but the same great flavour inside! Whilst I’m not a huge fan of the new label, the wine here is as impressive as ever. Lots of small tight bubbles, flavours of citrus and a hint of yeast. Overall one of my favourite everyday drinking champagne (which is good because I have a few cases of the stuff!)
