Château Rousselle – Soif de Vincent 2007

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

Vintage: 2007
Type: Bordeaux Blend
Country: France – Bordeaux – Côtes de Bourg

This wine starts with a great name: Soif de Vincent, meaning the thirst of Vincent (who happens to be the Château owner at Rousselle). The wine is meant as a summer refreshment – served chilled. With that in mind, it is not your typical Bordeaux, as it is light and refreshing (though it still has some of the Bordeaux heritage of earth and mineral). Overall it is a great refreshing drink, best enjoyed in the heat with some lovely complexity for people that don’t like their wine too frivolous.

Trivento Golden Reserve Malbec

Vintage: 2006
Type: Malbec
Country: Argentina

Wow. After cleansing my palate of Casillero del Diablo (Chile) Malbec, I tried this Argentinian Malbec and was surprised at the difference. First of all, its colour is a gorgeous ruby-violet shade. Swirl it around in your glass to release aromas of berries and chocolate. Admire its long legs. Taste the cherries and minty finish. This is just lovely.

Casillero del Diablo – Malbec

Wednesday, October 7th, 2009

Vintage: 2008
Type: Malbec
Country: Chile

Malbec is a grape that I only approach when I’m feeling particularly gutsy or confident, so maybe the timing was just a bit off today. This Malbec offers up an amazing bouquet after swirling it around just a tiny touch. It tastes of various berries, is strongly oaked and offers up a vanilla-like finish. This wine should always be paired with food, as it would be too bold on its own. I wondered why this wine is so bold – it is probably because of the lack of rain and low altitude at which the grapes are grown in Chile. I reckon this will pair well with a rare and lightly seasoned steak.
