Domaine Lucien Jacob Bourgogne – Aligoté 2009

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

Vintage: 2009
Type: Aligote
Country: France

Last summer, my husband and I visited a beautiful vineyard that is owned and operated by a French brother and sister duo. Domaine Jacob is tucked away in a small town north of Beaune on the Cote d’Or Ridge, and it was here I was introduced (in English!) to local Burgundy wines.

What a delicious journey! This Aligote was one of the first dry whites that I truly enjoyed.  It was bright, acidic and un-oaked. Did you know that “Aligote”  should be consumed young, as it does not age well? Drink Aligote as much as possible because I fear that most people will abandon it in favour of the more common Chardonnay.

Do visit this winemaker in person! Lucien’s wife is a beautiful British lady who takes care of the tastings and sales. Chantal is Lucien’s sister and she can drive groups up to the vineyards to show you the grapes up close and personal!
