Vintage: 2008
Type: Pinot Noir
Country: New Zealand – Marlborough

This was a gift presented by friends from New Zealand and Australia. New Zealand is a region that has Pinot Noirs rivalling those of Burgundy … this one lives up to the reputation. It is a light, lively, fruity red wine that goes well with summer dinners. It is 13% alcohol and easy to drink quickly, so slow down and savour it with your food. This wine was paired with Italian roasted tomato sausages and mushroom tortellini in a creamy basil sauce.
Technical Review
Appearance
Clear, pale Ruby.
Nose
Clean, medium. Characteristics of strawberries and cherry. Some sweet spice, such as Cinnamon.
Palate
Medium acidity. Low tannin. Flavours of red fruit, although not complex. Medium body. Medium length finish.
Conclusion
Very good.

Vintage: 2008
Type: Shiraz
Country: Australia – Barossa

This wine has nice oak hints with black fruit, chocolate, vanilla and tobacco. Still quite dark, almost purple colour. Good effort.

Vintage: 2008
Type: Pinot Gris
Country: France – Alsace – Eguisheim (Pfersigberg)

Did you know that the name for this particular wine comes from the German word for peach?
Inhale the scent deeply and you will sense floral hints. There is good balance here between sweetness and acidity. You’ll note some honey and citrus notes. This is a very nice Pinot Gris overall.
Fine for drinking on its own on a warm day or with aromatic oriental curries.

Vintage: 2008
Type: Bordeaux Blend
Country: France – Bordeaux – Pomerol

This wine was tasted during a tasting of Bordeaux over the holidays covering two wines from the Right and Left Banks. This wine was the pick of the evening, full berries and hints of cassis, smooth velvety tannins with an long elegant finish. Drink now, with a bit of decanting or for another few years.

Vintage: 2008
Type: Bordeaux Blend
Country: France – Bordeaux – St. Émilion

This wine was tasted during a tasting of Bordeaux over the holidays covering two wines from the Right and Left Banks. I found this wine not quite as nice as the Pomerol or the Pauillac, though it was still excellent, well worked tannins and a classic earthy Bordeaux finish. This wine will happily age for a few more years.

Vintage: 2008
Type: Tempranillo
Country: Spain – Castilla-La Mancha

This wine is a classic Spanish Tempranillo. The colour of the wine is dark red with no fading on the edges. On the nose there is vanilla. There are hints of oak on the pallet and a lot of blackcurrant and red berries.
Overall this wine is easy to drink and quite inexpensive. Good value for money.

Vintage: 2008
Type: Cabernet-Shiraz Blend
Country: Australia

This wine has a great dark colour – inky in nature. On the nose, there are scents full of berries and a hint of plum. On the palette are flavours of fruit, vanilla and a hint of chocolate; very nice indeed. There is a long finish with well integrated tannins. This wine will cellar well and is exceptional value at this price point.
