Vintage: 2003
Type: Riesling
Country: Germany – Pfalz

Rieslings should be able to lie down and age well but this 2003 seems to have prematurely peaked (perhaps due to my storage conditions). Don’t you hate it when London flats get too warm and your sensitive wines react poorly?
Like most older Rieslings, this one has taken on a slight petrol smell. It is off-dry (slightly sweet) and unfortunately does not offer a complex nose. Drink this now if you have any and do not want it to go to waste.

Vintage: 2003
Type: Champagne
Country: France – Pierry

This was part of the spectacular wine selection we had on Christmas. This, in my opinion, is one of the top houses in Champagne and this is one of their top bottles. Vintage Champagne tends to have a stronger flavour to it and isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. If you do enjoy vintage champagne, you’ll love this one. It is very crisp and dry with excellent flavours and lots of bubbles.

Vintage: 2003
Type: Tempranillo
Country: Spain

This wine graced our table at a gastro pub in Ballam. This Grand Reserva did not disappoint. Good leathery oak and berries on the nose and a great taste of cherry and oak, tempered with the age of the wine. Recommended.

Vintage: 2003
Type: Bordeaux
Country: France

A superb Claret from a good vintage. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it has the aromas of ripe cherries combined with beautifully mellow flavours of blackberry, vanilla and spice. Let this one age for a while if you can resist temptation.

Vintage: 2003
Type: Shiraz
Country: Australia – Mclaren Vale

I had a bottle of this included in a mixed case and I was unsure what to make of it. I had had Rosemount’s excellent GSM, so I was expecting something special. Boy was I not let down! An excellent wine, that is great now and should last for quite a few more years. I loved the oak flavours and bouquet and the wine had a deep rich crimson colour.
I need to go fine a case of this stuff…
