Domaine de la Madone Fleurie Cuvée Tradition 2009

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Vintage: 2009
Type: Beaujolais
Country: France – Beaujolais – Fleurie

This is a lovely Beaujolais with an excellent flavour full of fruit. Nice acidity and easy to drink. Tonnes of fruit on the palette – almost bursting with flavour.  Nice hints of minerality as well.

Tarlant Brut Rosé

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

Vintage: Non Vintage
Type: Champagne – Rosé
Country: France

This is a great tasting rosé. The champagne has lots of tight uniform bubbles coupled with a lovely pink colour. I has flavours of citrus with hints of red fruits. A very nice libation indeed.

Joseph Gruss & Fils Crémant d’Alsace Rosé 2009

Sunday, January 9th, 2011

Vintage: 2009
Type: Rosé Crémant
Country: Alsace – Eguisheim

Yummy, yum, yum. All French sparkling wine that comes from outside of the Champagne region is classified Cremant but the flavours and bubbles you’ll find in this bottle may deceive your senses to think otherwise. I am biased towards this vineyard and its products because I secretly admire Andre. Regardless of the bias, the Cremant stands out splendidly in its own right.

Clos René 1998

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Vintage: 1998
Type: Bordeaux
Country: France – Bordeaux – Pomerol

Still has lovely tones of florals and earth. Colour still deep red with fading at the edge. Flavours of plum and berries with a long finish. Drinking well now and it had the tannins for keeping a bit longer.

Mercier Vintage Champagne 2004

Friday, August 20th, 2010

Vintage: 2004
Type: Champagne
Country: France – Epernay

We had this champagne one evening to celebrate a special occasion. Boy were we not disappointed. This champagne has great citrus tones, a slightly malty vintage flavour and smooth uniform bubbles. Certainly worth giving a try and I recommend it, if you can find it outside of France!

Chateaux Tayac 1998

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

Vintage: 1998
Type: Bordeaux
Country: France – Bordeaux – Margaux

This Margaux is quite lovely with a nose of flowers and berries on the palette. It is still quite closed at the moment and requires decanting and at least an hour before drinking. Recommended. You can find this wine at Costco in the UK for a very reasonable price.

Valleymayor Rioja Gran Reserva 1995

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

Vintage: 1995
Type: Rioja – Gran Reserva
Country: Spain

In spite of its age, this Rioja is still quite complex and youthful. Everything that you would expect from a Gran Reserva, though I am still partial to some others that I have tried. Full of smooth velvety berries and a great finish.

You can find the wine here:

Chateau Mourlet Graves 2003

Monday, January 25th, 2010

Vintage: 2003
Type: Bordeaux
Country: France

A superb Claret from a good vintage. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, it has the aromas of ripe cherries combined with beautifully mellow flavours of blackberry, vanilla and spice. Let this one age for a while if you can resist temptation.

Ricossa-Barbera D’Asti

Monday, January 4th, 2010

Vintage: 2007
Type: Barbera D’Asti
Country: Italy

Of all of the Ricossa that I tatsed at the Tesco Wine fair this year, the Barbera D’Asti was the one that I enjoyed the most. Again a strong bold wine with Dark Cherries and plum on the palate. The aroma is oak with a strong earthy smell. The wine is also acidic, but not to the point of detracting from its taste.

Château Latour 1994 1er Cru

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

Vintage: 1994
Type: Bordeaux
Country: France

We had a rare chance to taste this delicous wine over a dinner for Eleanor’s Birthday. The wine is rich and complex with a great bouquet and mossy Bordeaux finish, as to be expected from such a wine as the Latour. Great if you can find it for a reasonable price, which we did, but personally I prefer the Lafite-Rothschild.
